March 18, 2026 – Great news!!!!! We have just received confirmation that the appropriation item passed at Council following Council Member Kamin’s advocacy at the horseshow opposing delay of the item. This confirms funding for improvements to many parks including the new playground for Mangum Manor Park. Although this does not cover the tennis court at this time, it does solidify where we stand for funding of the playground and other greenspaces around the city. We are extremely excited for this hard-fought victory. We continue to work to confirm the status of the renderings, productions, and timeline of actual build and will share further updates as we receive them.
March 16, 2026 – We have just been notified by our contact from the Office of Council Member Abbie Kamin, District C. The General Services Department (GSD) has recently recommended the City Council appropriate a certain amount of funds for playground improvements and replacements at various Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD) facilities. This appropriation includes funding for Mangum Manor Park. An inquiry has been made on a timeline following Council possible approval of funds. We will be kept informed as information is received.
March 5th, 2026 – Civic Club Meeting Playground Update: An update was provided on status of the playground rebuild. News was not good as we were very recently told it could be another 6 to 8 months before we know anything official. This did not support what we had already been told about the rebuild of the playground. Correspondence left us feeling we had gone backwards all the way to the beginning of needing to reconfirm funding of the playground. Something that was already discussed two years ago. We have been actively looking and researching options including proposals to local businesses for possible donations. We have asked residents if they have or know of local businesses in the area who may be willing to contribute, to please let usknow by emailing contact@mangummanor.org. We ask that any recommendation provided be someone you know directly and not just a list of places. This is not the only avenue we have researched and discussed, but is the next course with everything else we have been through. In the meantime, we continue to work with our District C Council Member to clear this matter up so as to hopefully circumnavigate this recent challenge and huge step backwards.
October 29, 2024 – We have finally been able to get at least one of the design plans for our new park. We are working to see if canopies can be added for additional shade. Super exciting! Additional photos in comments due to loading issues. Right now, we are personally estimating as early as the last quarter of next year, 2025, to start the build but a small possibility could be earlier around mid summer 2025. We have some amazing contacts who are trying to push this through for us as quickly as possible. Will continue to do my best to keep y’all posted. Hoping to have another update soon even if it’s just more processing paperwork getting approved.
